Pink Spinel Mahjong Tiles for Breast Cancer Awareness 🎗️

A jewelry-inspired American mahjong set supporting breast cancer awareness, with 20% of every sale donated to four breast cancer non-profit organizations. 

Many of us have a friend or a family member who has been affected by breast cancer and for me, that person is my cousin Joy. Joy was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in June 2024 at the young age of 33. Since then, she has undergone chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and a reconstruction surgery. Joy has been cancer-free since January 2026. 

Joy is a survivor.

Through genetic testing, Joy learned that she has the BRCA1 gene mutation, and strongly encouraged me to get tested as well. I was certain my test would come back negative, but to my surprise, I discovered that I also carry the BRCA1 gene mutation. An inherited mutation in the BRCA1 gene increases the risk of breast, ovarian and several other cancers - in both women and men.

My genetic counselor talked to me about my options - increased screenings or preventative surgeries. The amount of information was overwhelming and after months of research and doctor consultations, I decided that a prophylactic hysterectomy and double mastectomy was the right choice for me. Learning about my BRCA1 mutation gave me the opportunity to make informed decisions about my health, which I am very grateful for. Joy may have saved my life.

I am a previvor.

There are many wonderful non-profit organizations doing amazing work and I created the Pink Spinel Mahjong Tiles to raise money for four of them. I will be donating 20% of each sale, split evenly between these four organizations, and will be sharing totals in early November.

FORCE - Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered 

FORCE improves the lives of the millions of individuals and families facing hereditary cancer. Our community includes people with a personal or family history of cancer, Lynch syndrome, a BRCA1, BRCA2, ATM, CHEK2, PALB2 or other inherited mutation linked to cancer.  We accomplish this through our education, support, advocacy and research efforts.

We are dedicated to providing up to date, expert-reviewed information and resources that help people make informed medical decisions. Our strong, supportive community of peers and professionals ensures no one must face hereditary cancer alone. FORCE serves as a champion, unifying the community and advocating for awareness, access to care, and better treatment and prevention options.

FORCE was an invaluable source of information and support to me while I was researching and learning about BRCA1.

IRIS - Breast Cancer Rehabilitation

Iris Breast Cancer Rehabilitation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for individuals impacted by breast cancer by providing and advocating for specialized, evidence-based rehabilitation while reducing socioeconomic, racial, cultural and geographic barriers to care.

The physical therapists at IRIS are amazing and helped me recover my full range of motion after my double mastectomy and then DIEP flap reconstructions.

Sharsheret

Sharsheret, a Jewish not-for-profit organization, provides personalized support, lifesaving education, financial assistance and genetic counseling to empower those faced with or at increased genetic risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

While our expertise is in young women and Jewish families as related to breast cancer and ovarian cancer, Sharsheret programs serve all women and men.

THE TILES

Each tile in the Pink Spinel Mahjong set features original jewelry-inspired artwork made in four layer material that is engraved and painted. The Dots are round gemstones in different shades of pink, and the Soap is a striking emerald-cut pink spinel set in gold claw prongs — the set's signature stone. The Bams take the form of elegant green baguette gemstones. The WINDS are rings with a blue gemstone, and a crowned diamond marks the Joker — each one framed in gold. The Flower tiles have a pink rose with a ribbon - a pink ribbon for breast cancer, and a pink and blue ribbon for male breast cancer, because men get breast cancer too.

From the hummingbird with a Pink Ribbon that opens the bamboo suit to the Green and Red Dragons that close the Bams and Craks, every tile is its own small work of design.
